David L. Herman joined the Law Office of Philip H. Dyson in 2013 after over a decade of wide-ranging practice including criminal defense in Fresno, service as a deputy county counsel in Madera County, California, and as a deputy city attorney for the City of San Diego, and representing plaintiffs at a personal-injury firm in San Diego.
His trial and appellate cases have included personal injury, wrongful death, civil rights, land use and zoning, open government, and labor and employment law. He also has substantial transactional experience in real estate and land use, has advised various public boards and commissions, has taught seminars on the California Public Records Act and Ralph M. Brown Act, and published a guide on public assessment and fees that has been used by public agencies throughout California.
A member of the California Bar since 2001, Mr. Herman received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego and his law degree from the University of California, Davis, where he was co-editor-in-chief of Environs, the UC Davis environmental law journal, and earned the Witkin Award for the highest score in Evidence.
Mr. Herman has written several articles that have been published in various law reviews and journals, and received the Wiley W. Manuel Award from the State Bar of California for his pro bono legal services.
During his time with Mr. Dyson, Mr. Herman has helped to litigate various cases including securities fraud, legal malpractice, trade secrets, breach of contract, and elder abuse.
When not in the office, Mr. Herman can be found exploring local restaurants and wineries with his wife Cindy or hiking in the local mountains and deserts.
